Why Take Lessons?
Learning to drive is a muli-part process. It is not simply about being able to drive the car or passing the tests but also about the safety of yourself and others on the road. Learning from family or friends can be very useful but as people become more familiar with driving they also pick up bad habits that could endanger others and prevent you from passing your test. Your instructor has completed a significant and continual testing and learning process in order to be the best teacher they can and offer you their experience in a safe and secure environment.
Learning with Debut, you will be driving an up to date modern car with dual controls meaning that during your training you, and other road users, will remain as safe as possible at all times.
The practical test itself changes frequently, your instructor will know the current routes that the examiners are likely to take, what they will expect of you and how best to tune your individual skills to help you become a safe and confident driver.

Your First Lesson
You may be nervous of your first lesson, or just waiting to get behind the wheel - everyone approaches driving for the first time in their own way.
In your first lesson it is your opportunity to meet your driving instructor and to get to know your car. You will be taken to a quiet stretch of road and instructed on how the car operates, how to start, stop and pull away safely. Driving is a very interactive experience and as such you will most likely drive the car for at least some of the lesson. This will give us the opportunity to asses how you react behind the wheel and give you experience of some of the basic skills.

Your Second, Third, Fourth....
Your early lessons will concentrate on the actual skills of controlling the car - use of the main controls - the clutch, accelerator, brakes, gears, and the steering. You need to be in control of the car, not let it control you.

Depending on your progress, situation and your instructor, what you will learn in each lesson differs from person to person. We cannot say exactly what you will do and when you will do it, just beacause a friend went on a dual carriageway on their thrid lesson doesn't mean you will, nor does it mean you are behind or in front. Everyone is different and the teaching is adapted to the current situation.

So how many lessons will I need?
The answer to this question is very dependant on the individual, how often they have lessons and if they have any external driving experience from friends or family. A typical pupil will take anywhere between 10 and 30 hours tuition. We will advise the pupil when we think they should book their test based upon our experience with them and ensure they are a safe and competent driver before attending the test itself.
